Brown Bread by Dominique Rey

'Brown Bread'

text from education booklet:

Dominique Rey's wax and sugar casts of bread loaves are a direct reference to the historic sugar importation and refinement industry of the area along the Thames. Inside each loaf is a shadowy object; subtle images, street names and countires of origin associated with the sugar industry. Specifically, Rey seems to be reflecting the past history of the building which houses the gallery, a sweet factory which closed shortly after the second World War.
