Erika Tan 'random acts of...'

Erika Tan's work existed as a physical, but temporary, intervention into the street in the form of chalk graffiti and xmas-snow stenciling of Jack the Ripper's victims as well as creating shrouds for electricity cabinets and street poles in camouflage. Her work mades reference to the violence, both real and mythical, of the area, exposing the different layers of history - from anonymous violence enacted everyday on local people to the highly mythologised Jack the Ripper and the tourist trade that plies its truths down Hanbury Street.

Erika Tan documented the various engagements or disruptions and pasted them up as "Lost" and "Found" documents down the length of the street.
