Jananne Al-Ani For curio, Jananne Al-Ani projected a video from the Kobi Nazrul Centre onto the blank wall of the old brewery opposite. The DVD was looped and showed a woman brushing her hair endlessly, never showing her face. Because we were at the Kobi Nazrul Centre every night for the 4 week run, on hand to talk to anyone willing to engage in the ideas and aesthetics of curio, we could observe how people responded. Approximately one in three passers-by noticed and stopped to watch the projection. Some unnerved members of the public would shout at it, "Show us your face!" Others would peer back into the first floor window, trying to work it out technically or wondering what it was all about. A few believed that we must be selling something (hairbrushes?) because that's what is expected. The projection spanned over 20ft, and being the first thing people usually saw of the exhibition, we took the opportunity to talk to them about the artwork and about the ideas in curio generally.
